Sartel is prescribed for essential hypertension, a condition characterized by elevated blood pressure at rest without a clear cause. While there are typically no additional symptoms, high blood pressure heightens the risk of cardiovascular diseases and, if unaddressed, can lead to kidney damage, strokes, heart attacks, and even blindness. Sartel works to lower blood pressure to normal resting levels, thereby improving life expectancy and decreasing the likelihood of cardiovascular issues and damage to vital organs. It may be administered alone as monotherapy or in conjunction with other antihypertensive drugs such as diuretics (water tablets).
Sartel contains the active compound Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) utilized for managing hypertension and heart failure.
For optimal results, take Sartel whole with a glass of water once daily, with or without food, consistently at the same time. The prescribed dosage depends on your specific treatment needs and your physician's guidance. Blood pressure will typically decrease within 2 hours after taking Sartel; however, it may take up to 4 weeks for the medication to reach its full effectiveness. While Sartel will assist in managing your blood pressure, it does not provide a cure, so continuing the medication as long as advised by your doctor is essential to maintain normal levels.
Sartel includes Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that functions by inhibiting the attachment of the hormone angiotensin II to its receptors across various tissues, such as vascular smooth muscle (blood vessel walls) and kidney cells. Angiotensin II is a hormone produced in the body that plays multiple roles in blood pressure regulation—the force needed for blood circulation—and fluid balance, influencing the volume of water excreted from the bloodstream by the kidneys. This hormone promotes the retention of salt (sodium and potassium) and water by the kidneys, while also causing blood vessels to constrict (narrow). This action raises blood volume while simultaneously decreasing the capacity of blood vessels, leading to an increase in blood pressure. Telmisartan in Sartel inhibits the interaction between angiotensin II and its receptor, countering its blood pressure-increasing effects by promoting the dilation (widening) of blood vessels and enhancing the expulsion of salt and water by the kidneys into urine, thus lowering blood pressure. By lowering blood pressure, Sartel reduces the heart's workload, subsequently lowering the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Blood pressure reductions can be observed within 2 hours of administration, lasting for 24 hours, with peak effects noticeable within 4 weeks.
The most frequently reported side effects associated with Sartel include dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, respiratory infections such as sinusitis or pharyngitis, cough, and elevated blood potassium levels.
Avoid using Sartel if you: have allergies to telmisartan or any ingredients within Sartel; are pregnant or breastfeeding, as Telmisartan may adversely affect a developing fetus; have kidney or liver disease; or are taking medications that could interact with Sartel, including other antihypertensives like ACE inhibitors, diuretics like furosemide, potassium-sparing diuretics like spironolactone, potassium supplements or potassium-rich salt substitutes, lithium for mood stabilization, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Store your Sartel below 25°C in a cool, dry location.
